KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Oshawa FireWolves forward Alex Simmons came up clutch for Team Canada yesterday at the Pan-American Championships as he scored twice in the final two minutes of the championship game to lift Canada over the United States in a 9-8 victory.
The Pan-American Championships took place in Kingston, Jamiaca and served as a continental qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championships which will take place in Toyko, Japan. Simmons was a catalyst for Canada as he finished as the second leading scorer of the tournament with 22 points on 11 goals and 11 assists.
In the championship game vs USA, Canada found themselves down 8-5 going into the 4th quarter.
“We kind of got down on ourselves early. Our coaches reassured us, one play at a time. It’s not necessarily how we score but when we score,” Simmons said afterward on World Lacrosse TV. “Their goalie made some great saves early in the game and kind of got in our heads. But we stuck with it and we were fortunate to bury those at the end.”
Simmons lead all scorers in the game with 4 goals and 1 assist including the game winning goal that came as the clock was ticking down.

“A little bit of luck,” Simmons added of his game-winner. “Jake (Stevens) tried to make that pass there on the inside and it just happened to be at my feet. Sometimes luck, sometimes effort and it worked out for us in the end.”
Th FireWolves would like to congratulate Alex Simmons and Team Canada on winning the Pan-American Championships and securing their spot at the 2027 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championships.
