OSHAWA, ON – The Oshawa FireWolves are getting set for their second tilt against the Halifax Thunderbirds this season on Saturday, January 10 from the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa. Faceoff is set for 7:00 PM ET from the Tribute Communities Centre and can be streamed on TSN+, ESPN+ and NLL+.
The Oshawa FireWolves’ offence improved against the Ottawa Black Bears team last week and despite the result, there were many positives for the entire team. It will be another exciting night in downtown Oshawa as it will also be Green Gaels Night.
Offence Shines
It was the offensive scoring that Oshawa had been looking for all season. The team exploded for 14 goals in last weeks game and hope they can continue the same thing for the rest of the season. Alex Simmons scored two goals and had 11 points along with Tye Kurtz tallying two goals and seven points. The team was finding better looks on offence and converted twice on the powerplay.
Green Gaels Night
The FireWolves are the first professional lacrosse team in Oshawa and being a city that has deep lacrosse roots and heritage is special. Due to that, the team is having a Green Gaels night to honour the first Junior A Box Lacrosse team in Durham Region–Oshawa Green Gaels. The Oshawa Jr A team won seven straight Canadian Junior A Box Lacrosse Championships–Minto Cup– from 1963 to 1969, a feat no team has come close to reaching. Come out to Green Gaels night and wear your green to support the team from back in the day, the current Green Gaels organization and the FireWolves who will be wearing new jerseys for the occasion.
Climbing The Hill
Halifax is coming off a bye week and will play two games in two days. They will be in Ottawa on Friday night before coming to Oshawa. It’s never easy to play a double-header weekend and it’s even harder on the road. A key piece of their game will be goaltender Warren Hill who allowed two goals against the first time they played Oshawa this season back on December 5. Hill is one of the best goalies in the game and going up against his Six Nations goalie partner, Doug Jamieson will make for a very exciting goaltending duel.
FireWolves Players To Watch
Number 6 on the right side in Alex Simmons had a breakout game and is looking for more. He scored six goals and had 11 points last week and will look to add to his season point total.
Tye Kurtz complimented Simmons’ 11 points with seven of his own a week ago. Kurtz is the only FireWolves player record a point in every game this season so far and is looking to keep that streak alive against Halifax.
Doug Jamieson always enjoys playing against Halifax and looks forward to going up against his goalie partner and good friend, Warren Hill.
Opposing Players To Watch
Clarke Petterson is Halifax‘s leading points scorer. He’s looking to score a lot against the FireWolves.
Graeme Hossack grew up in Durham Region and is looking forward to playing in his hometown this Saturday night.
Dawson Theede is another Durham guy and played for the Green Gaels in junior lacrosse. Theede leads the Thunderbirds in goals and is hoping to hit double digits in that category.
It’s always fun to watch Hill and Jamieson go up against one another and Hill is looking to keep the crown after winning the first matchup back in December.
