GAME PREVIEW: FIREWOLVES RETURN HOME TO WELCOME SEALS ON VALENTINE’S DAY

OSHAWA, ON – It’s been over a month since the FireWolves played in The Den, but they’re back tonight for a Valentine’s Day clash against the San Diego Seals at 7:00 PM tonight from the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa. Tonight’s matchup will feature two teams who played in the final weeks of the regular season last year, with the Seals eliminating the FireWolves from playoff contention. The FireWolves are set for their Star Wars Night on TSN+, ESPN,+ and NLL+.

Flipping the Script

The Oshawa FireWolves return to The Den after a road trip that saw them lose four tightly contested matches. The team kept improving each matchup, but was unable to find the win column. The offence was finding good shooting lanes and scoring on the power play, while the defence made strides in picking off passes and keeping good defensive structure. Now that they are back home in Oshawa, they are looking to flip the script and secure a win on home floor, and looking to do it against the team that knocked them out of the running for the playoffs a season ago. While the Seals are a tough team, the FireWolves are looking to take the crown from them and come out on top.

Clark And Theede Homecoming

Tonight’s game will be a homecoming for local products Emerson Clark and Dawson Theede who joined the FireWolves during their four game road trip. Theede is from Brooklin and had a successful junior lacrosse career with the Green Gaels Lacrosse Club and Whitby Warriors. Clark is a legend in Oshawa from his time playing hockey for the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and will surely get the fans on their feet now that he is scoring goals in the NLL.

Star Wars Night

An exciting matchup against a West Coast team means that the FireWolves are travelling to a Galaxy Far Far Far away for Star Wars Night. Fans, come down to the TCC dressed up as your favourite Star Wars character. Different Star Wars-themed photo booths will be set up around the concourse with a variety of intergalactic graphics and engaging activities for fans to enjoy. The first 2,000 kids to enter the TCC tonight will be given a Laser Sword for the game.

Wolves Hunt Seals

The Firewolves and Seals had battles in back-to-back weeks last season, with the teams splitting the home-and-home series. The FireWolves won in the first meeting last year by two, before the Seals won in their barn by one to become the last team in the playoffs and eliminate the FireWolves from the playoff picture. The Seals are led by a veteran offence in Wes Berg, Connor Robinson, Ben McIntosh, and Corey Small. Their defence is anchored by Zach Currier and Trevor Baptiste, who also serves as the team’s faceoff specialist. The Seals are a quick team that runs in transition and will be a good test against the FireWolves.

FireWolves Players To Watch

Will Johansen was stellar on defence on the road trip. He tallied 24 loose balls along with four assists and has been an anchor on the penalty kill.

Tye Kurtz has been scoring highlight reel goals all season long, and another last weekend when he dunked from behind the net in Toronto. Kurtz is eager to continue his sniping as he has 17 career regular-season points against San Diego.

Opposing Players To Watch

Tre Leclaire has been leading the way on offence for the Seals with 19 goals this season. Leclaire has been firing on all cylinders thus far and is looking to continue that when the Seals put their undefeated road record on the line.

Zach Currier is having a great season in all areas. As a transition player, he has been collecting loose balls and running in transition to generate scoring chances. Look for number 77 to be all over the floor for the White and Purple.

The FireWolves are set to return to the Tribute Communities Centre on Saturday, February 14, at 7 pm. Join in on the Star Wars Night fun! Fans can purchase their tickets here
